Arizona’s Special Session Ends, No Unemployment Extension

After only two days, the Arizona Legislature adjourned its special session without reaching agreement on an extension of unemployment benefits. These benefits will end for many jobless citizens in June.

Gov. Jan Brewer called the special session to vote on a proposal that would have extended benefits for an additional 20 weeks. Some Republican legislators would not support the proposal unless other actions were also taken to spur the economy.Gov. Brewer refused, however, to expand the session’s scope.
