A: There are four distinct stages in an M&A process and HR should be a strong presence in each one:
1. Pre-deal – identifying and selecting potential business partners, negotiating the deal and making the offer to the targeted company
2. Due Diligence – discovering significant liabilities and exposures, uncovering potential deal-breakers, confirming the value of the deal
3. Integration Planning – creating a master plan and schedule for building the new combined company focusing on structure, processes, people, culture and technology
4. Implementation – Executing the integration plan, measuring progress and maintaining momentum while maintaining business continuity
