MSEC Employment Law attorney Jennifer England recently authored a column for the ColoradoBiz website, sharing her advice to employers on the subject of social media in the workplace. Here are a few of her tips for how to avoid the legal pitfalls of social media in your organization:
• Monitor and understand the laws that impact your employees’ communication via social media channels
• Avoid an overly broad social media policy; keep it simple and easy for everyone in your organization to understand
• Be aware of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986, and remember if you’re not the intended user of or recipient on information posted on a social media channel, then you have no business reading it
