Tips and Tricks for Filing VETS-100/100A Forms

If your company has a federal government contract or subcontract entered into before  December 1, 2003, valued at $25,000 or more, or one entered into or modified after December 1, 2003, and valued at $100,000 or more, you are required to file the VETS-100 or the VETS-100A form. Both of these reports provide the Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS) with information related to the protected veterans currently employed with the company.

In 2011, VETS attempted to upgrade the VETS-100 reporting system and did not accept reports until December. This year, the VETS reporting system opened for reporting in August. While the VETS website is still difficult to navigate, the new report appears user-friendly.

With the upgraded reporting system, VETS has assigned companies new identification numbers. When filing a report, you may not be able to use the company identification number assigned before 2011. Also, according to the help desk, the company name must be spelled exactly as it was spelled last year, including the same punctuation, spacing, and capitalization.

The VETS system now produces a confirmation screen that you can print out to show that you filed the VETS-100/100A report. You will also receive a confirming email and PDF.
