Five Things You May Not Know About Mental Health America of Colorado

2.  MHAC currently serves as the fiscal agent for the Colorado Mental Wellness Network, a peer run organization, as it is currently in process of submitting the necessary paper work to become its own 501c3 non profit organization.

3.  The mission of The Network is to empower Coloradans affected by mental health conditions to achieve wellness and further recovery through advocacy tools and peer support. Programs include wellness recovery action plan trainings, wellness workshops, advocacy, leadership academy, and statewide focus groups.

4.  MHAC has worked hard to publicize the needs of the mental health system since their founding days. In 2005, MHAC and several partners published the Summit Report detailing the impact of recent state budget cuts on mental health and substance abuse. In short, this report illustrated all of the ways our society and economy are impacted by untreated mental health and substance abuse issues.

5.  MHAC led legislation efforts in 2007 to increase insurance benefits for mental health conditions; a dream that was realized when Governor Bill Ritter signed Senate Bill 36 into law.
