Q & A – What if the employee tells me that he or she does not want anyone else to know about the situation and that he or she does not want me to act on the complaint?

Q: What if the employee tells me that he or she does not want anyone else to know about the situation and that he or she does not want me to act on the complaint?

A: The employer does not have the choice of not telling anyone or not acting on the complaint.  The employer should explain that the complaint will be kept as confidential as possible, but that it must be investigated and others must be informed.
