How stable is your workforce? If the numbers from a new survey by CareerBuilder are accurate, be prepared to say goodbye to 20 percent of your workforce over the coming year. The survey, conducted at the end of 2013, showed that 21 percent of full-time employees plan to change jobs in 2014. This is the largest number in the post-recession era and up from 17 percent in 2013.
Why are so many workers planning to leave? The reason is a continuing drop in job satisfaction. Only 59 percent of workers are satisfied with their jobs. This is down from 66 percent in 2013. Eighteen percent of workers cite dissatisfaction with pay and feeling that their upper leadership does not value them as the leading reasons for dissatisfaction. Dissatisfaction with advancement opportunities, work-life balance, and having a poor opinion of their bosses’ performance were other contributing factors.
Why do workers stay? At the top of the list were a positive perception of work-life balance, relationships with their coworkers, and their organizational benefits.
