Q & A – Can employees take leave intermittently or work a reduced schedule?

AttendanceQ. Can employees take leave intermittently or work a reduced schedule?

A. Yes. Intermittent leave can be taken where it is medically-necessary due to an employee’s or a family members’ serious health condition. Intermittent leave is also available for qualifying exigencies. Otherwise, where there is not medical necessity supporting the need for intermittent leave, intermittent leave is not required, but can be made available where the employer and the employee both agree to it.
