Q: What health and safety laws must employers follow?
A: Most employers, with the exception of public sector employers, are covered by the Occupation Safety and Health Act (OSHA). It has over 20,000 regulations outlining safety practices in the workplace. Your workplace may be one that must be in compliance with a few or very many of these regulations. Employers with office workers typically have fewer OSHA compliance regulations they must follow, in contrast to construction sites, where more OSHA regulations must be followed.
States also require that employers have workers’ compensation coverage. This provides medical care to those injured at work.
