A: Statutory benefits like Social Security/Medicare, the employer and the employee share cost by paying FICA taxes.  Workers’ compensation and unemployment insurance are paid for by the employer through required contributions.  Employers can pass on all or a portion of the cost of benefits like health and other insurance to employees.  This is generally accomplished via payroll deduction.
