Q & A – I was just informed by an employee in California that she has quit, with tomorrow being her last day. When do I have to pay her final wages?

Q: I was just informed by an employee in California that she has quit, with tomorrow being her last day. When do I have to pay her final wages?

A: When an employee resigns employment, wages become due and payable not more than 72 hours thereafter, unless the employee has provided at least 72 hours or more of intention to quit, in which case the final wages are due and payable on the employee’s last day of employment. Additional information regarding final pay can be found here: http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/faq_paydays.htm.
