OSHA Releases Top 10 Violations of Fiscal 2015

Last week, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration released the following preliminary list of top 10 workplace safety and health violations for fiscal year 2015 at its National Safety Council Congress in Atlanta:

1. Fall Protection

2. Hazard Communication

3. Scaffolding

4. Respiratory Protection

5. Lockout/Tagout

6. Powered Industrial Trucks

7. Ladders

8. Electrical – Wiring Methods

9. Machine Guarding

10. Electrical – General Requirements

“Many of these same standards are on the list of top violations year after year,” says Jennifer Vold, MSEC’s lead Risk Management attorney. “Employers who deal with these hazards should be sure that they have reviewed the standard and have whatever written plans and training are required. For example, many employers are unaware that the lockout tagout standard requires machine-specific procedures for each machine that must be locked or tagged out. Employers are frequently cited by OSHA for their failure to do so.”
