Workplace Violence Resources

The tragic mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, on June 12 again raises questions about gun violence prevention, mental health promotion, hate crimes’ causes and controls, and workplace safety and security—all significant concerns for us as employees and employers.

The City of Denver offers active-shooter training for all city employees. Developed by the Denver Police Department and the Office of Risk Management, the training advises employees to Train (become educated), Run (get away), Hide (if they cannot run safely), and Fight (as a last resort). An online video by the FBI provides the same advice about how to respond to an active-shooter event. The video can be viewed here.
