Justice Department Office to Receive New Name

Last week, the Federal Register contained proposed regulations from the Department of Justice (DOJ) office that enforces the Immigration and Nationality Act’s anti-discrimination provision that would rename the office and implement new operational guidelines.

Under the proposed regulations, the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices would be renamed, “Immigrant and Employee Rights Section of the Civil Rights Division.” It is hoped the name change will eliminate confusion between the agency being renamed and the separate Office of  Special Counsel, whose charter primarily involves protecting federal whistle-blower employees from retaliation.
