Wage Theft Transparency Act Takes Effect in Colorado

Colorado’s Wage Theft Transparency Act (HB 17-1021) took effect immediately April 13, upon Gov. John Hickenlooper’s signature. The act makes “wage theft” violations in Colorado subject to open records requests.

Previous Colorado law prohibited the release of any information requested by the state that might reveal a trade secret. Under the new law, requested information must be made public unless the director of the Division of Labor Standards and Statistics determines it includes specific trade secret information.

Members in need of assistance with wage claims should contact their MSEC representative.
