Q & A – Besides FMLA, under what other circumstances might I be required to provide leave?

Q: Besides FMLA, under what other circumstances might I be required to provide leave?

A: Federal laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) may require employers to provide leave to certain employees.

State law may also require employers to provide leave for employees.  State leave laws may require employers to provide extended medical or family leave, pregnancy-disability leave, school activities leave, crime victim or domestic violence leave, or organ or bone marrow donation leave.
