Q. What if an employee quits with notice, but the employer wants to end the employment immediately?
A. The employer may do this, although there may be consequences. The employee may file for unemployment for the period of the notice, and the state unemployment department would determine if the employee were entitled to receive unemployment. Also, if there is a request on the part of the employer to provide notice, and yet the employer has a practice of terminating employees who give notice immediately, rather than allowing them to work through the notice period, employees may stop providing notice over time.
