New Accommodations Toolkit Offered to Employers

On August 1, 2019, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that it has developed a new Workplace Accommodation Toolkit, in conjunction with the Job Accommodation Network (JAN), to help employers and employees understand their rights and responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). JAN is a free source of expert and confidential guidance on making workplace accommodations, which also offers one-on-one consultations and advice about individual circumstances. Members may reach JAN by calling 1-800-526-7234.

The new Toolkit is a compilation of guidance, templates, training, checklists, resources, and ways to make reasonable accommodations to employees, all in one centralized place. “Accommodations help create more inclusive and welcoming workplaces for America’s more than 30 million working-age people with disabilities,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy Jennifer Sheehy. “This toolkit helps break down the process and offers concrete examples to ensure accommodations are effective and benefit all parties involved, including employers, employees, or job applicants.”

Employers Council also offers expert advice and consultation on ADA and reasonable accommodations as a benefit of membership, as well as training courses such as ADA: Managing Disabilities in the Workplace and Managing the Ill and Injured Worker Under the ADA, FMLA, and Workers’ Compensation.
