It’s the holiday season. Our members wonder whether the Families First Corona Virus Response Act (or local laws that also cover absences due to the pandemic) would require an employer to pay sick leave when employees’ school-aged children are home for the holidays.
FFCRA will not apply if school or daycare is closed for a holiday because the closure is not due to COVID. However, if while kids are out of school for the holiday, a parent doesn’t have care for the child because their care is closed due to COVID, then it would be covered by FFCRA.
Remember, Employers Council can help with questions like these as we enter the holiday season.
