U. S. Department of Labor Gearing Up on Enforcement and Information for Workers

The week of April 25 was busy for the U. S. Department of Labor. In addition to delaying the 2020 Tip Rule on April 26, 2021, the Department announced an initiative to help workers understand the federal wage laws that protect them, called the  Essential Workers, Essential Protections initiative.

On the initiative’s web page, some FAQs address pandemic-related scenarios that employees and employers may experience. It answers questions employees may have about pay, break time, and time off if an employee is ill. Employers’ questions about tax credits for paid sick leave are also answered.

The Department has also updated and revised the Worker Rights webpage. It focuses on the right to fair pay, the ability to take leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act, and it includes young workers’ rights and farm workers’ rights. There is a link to a complaint that can be filed with the U. S. Department of Labor.

As an employer, it is helpful to be as knowledgeable as your employees. If, after looking at the links above, you have questions or concerns, please contact us. We can help.
